In a textile design course at D.I.S., we were asked one evening to draw whatever came to mind. I drew a couple fish, inspired by the whimsical line drawings of flora and fauna characteristic of the Marimekko patterns we had recently studied. Soon enough, the page was full of their friends. I developed the drawing into a repeated pattern for a shower curtain, then designed a complementary nautical wallpaper.
